Mini Musicians Level 4 Goals and Curriculum

This program will foster learning through musical development. The Orff classroom is one of creativity and will encourage children to follow their natural curiosity and expression, while discovering music. Students will gain an overall understanding of rhythmic patterns, body percussion, listening skills, musical texts, percussion instruments and music pedagogy in an interactive and engaging way.  

Overall Objectives:

In Mini Musicians 4, students will continue to explore the musical elements through movement, singing, composing and improvising. Students will further their understanding to pitch awareness, and begin to explore how songs are structured. Each class will move at its own pace according to skills.  Goals and objectives for the year are;

  • Distinguish between steady beat containing 2 eighth notes, quarter notes and quarter rest 
  • Understand rhythmic patterns 
  • Understand half note 
  • Identify so and la 
  • Identify rests as no sound beat
  • Explore un pitched instruments to represent rhythm and beat 
  • Explore percussion instruments to show rhythm, melody and pitch 
  • Understand visual representation of rhythmic patterns (notation) 
  • Practice and Prepare for parent class sit in at Christmas 
  • Identify four sixteenth notes
  • Identify the dotted notes and rhythms 
  • Practice identifying known rhythms and pitches 
  • Understand structure of a piece of music 
  • Distinguish different tones and textures in music
  • Identify 3/4 and 4/4 meters 
  • Utilize creative movement with music pieces 
  • Explore dynamics 
  • Explore vocal harmonies

Progress reports will be handed out twice per year
